Magnesium, telomeres and anti-aging …..

I know I keep mentioning Magnesium …. but this amazing mineral/nutrient is key to a staggering 300 biochemical reactions in the human body. So, it is little wonder that words: Magnesium, deficiency and ageing are often used in the same sentence. I have been researching and reading about telomeres and their importance in longevity and human health for some time now.

Telomeres are the tiny units of DNA at the very end of each chromosome. They shorten over time as you age, because they cannot fully replicate each time the cell divides (about 50 times in a lifetime). But, a growing body of research (this is what I like learning about) is showing that certain nutrients play a huge role in protecting, or even increasing, telomere length thereby affecting longevity.

"Magnesium influences telomere length by affecting DNA integrity and repair, in addition to its potential role in oxidative stress and inflammation." - Joseph Mercola. I can seriously spend hours reading and digesting Dr Mercola's work !

Magnesium (Mg) is also known as the "anti-stress" mineral because it aids in relaxing the nerves and relieving tension. Extra magnesium can enhance your energy during the day, and help you sleep better at night.

A new era of anti-ageing nutritional science is upon us. Or maybe you prefer the term 'Youth-ing'. Or maybe just 'a better quality of health as we age'. Whichever term you prefer, my interest is in feeling well enough to jump out of bed each day, with enough energy, to seize it! (the day, not the poor bed.)

As I am always saying, the ocean is the answer. High levels of magnesium are found in a natural, bioavailable state, in our oceans. My whole wellness business (and personal interest) is built around this fact. And, this quick blog is only focussed on Magnesium - I am harvesting and working with amazing ORMUS minerals and many other trace minerals too!

"After oxygen, water and basic food, Magnesium may be the most important element needed by your body. It activates 300 different biochemical reactions in your body that are all necessary for your body to function properly." And lets face it, a poorly functioning body is an ageing body. That's why it is important to use ORMUS Alkaline Liquid Minerals. Add a teaspoon of Magnesium dermally in 'bath water', by using any of my creams (they all contain high levels of hand-harvested minerals sourced from our clean Australian ocean.)

If you are interested in learning more about telomeres, google Dr Elizabeth Blackburn of the University of California. She was awarded in 2009 a Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine "for the discovery of how chromosomes are protected by telomeres and the enzyme telomerase." She is inspiring.
